Historical

Betsy Ross Builta was a prairie restoration expert and trailblazer in the field of agriculture. She was a CEO of Sustainable Growth Texas, LLC which took a holistic approach to on-farm research and farming, non-synthetic ecosystems, and provided profit via high-quality grass-fed beef through Betsy Ross Grass-Fed Beef. Sustainable Growth Texas consulted with land owners who were looking to transition from chemical to non-chemical (organic) based systems for their farming; the company paradigm focused on the idea that there is nothing bad in nature and everything has a purpose in the ecosystem: we want everything coming out of the ground to return to the ground.

Sustainable Growth Texas used rotational grazing to feed their cattle to prevent the need for supplemental nutrition. This meant cattle would be moved every 12-24 hours onto different grazing areas that contained different nutrient densities. Cattle were bred in West Texas and moved to the farm once they were weaned, always grass-fed during this process.

Betsy was a consult for Texas State University to restore Freeman Center Ranch and completely renovate Bobcat Farm. Her restoration work at the Bobcat Farm area of the Ranch paved the way for the continuation of the student-run farm, and the sustainable agricultural methods used to regenerate soil and contribute to local food systems is still used today from its start in the late 2010s.
